Run for a Position on the APVMA Executive Board
Serving on the APVMA Executive Board is a prestigious leadership opportunity and a great way to get involved with the APVMA! Executive officers serve a 1-year term that lasts from national symposium to the following year’s symposium, and the team consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Webmaster. You are welcome and encouraged to email the current executive officers with questions about their respective position. Typical responsibilities for each position are found below. Please read and understand your expected responsibilities before deciding to run for office. In order to be nominated for office you must:
- You must attend the President's meeting held on Saturday morning during the National Symposium.
- You must have another APVMA member nominate you
- You must have an advisor present in order to recommend your nomination. If an advisor cannot be present at the symposium, you may show a typed statement from your advisor saying you are in good standing student to run.
- You must follow the election rules as outlined in the constitution and will be explained during the President's Meeting.

Are you interested in becoming an APVMA advisor?
APVMA advisors will be selected by a process led by the APVMA Executive Board in which candidates will be vetted through their willingness and interest in the position. If the board recognizes an optimal candidate that can achieve the following duties and work well within the organization, the candidate may be selected as a member of the ABoT. It is an opportunity to mentor pre-veterinary students across the nation while assisting the APVMA Executive Board. The following are the duties required of the ABoT:
In the event that a member of the ABoT is either delinquent in their duties, unfit to hold their position, or does not maintain proper conduct, they may be impeached. Impeachment must be proposed by any individual(s) on the Executive Board or ABoT. Impeachment may only be imposed by an unanimous vote of the officers and an unanimous vote of the ABoT, not including the ABoT member in question.
- Provide oversight and recommendations for appropriate communication of the Executive Board members with professional and scientific societies, industry, and nonprofit businesses in regards to any APVMA-related business.
- Provide support as needed for Executive Board members, particularly when an Executive Board member resigns mid-year. The ABoT will then assume responsibilities of that (those) Executive Board members.
- Provide oversight and recommendations in regards to the budget and fundraising each year, and to provide support to maintain a functional budget during subsequent years. The ABoT members will provide final approval for all expenditures from the APVMA Budget.
- Provide oversight and approval for any dissemination of post-Symposium assessment surveys by the Executive Board to any corporation, scientific or professional society, or any other organization or individual with whom APVMA business is necessary.
- At least 1 member of the ABoT must attend each conference call meeting of the Executive Board throughout the year, and attend the Summer Business Meeting during years when one is able to occur.
- The ABoT will also be responsible to remove any member of the Executive Board who is delinquent in their responsibilities, unfit or unable to hold their position, or does not maintain proper conduct.
